What we Believe
-
“in essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things charity”
As an interdenominational church, we’re uniquely positioned to champion this idea. We recognize that there are nonnegotiable Christian tenets (Dogma) that are core to what it means to be Christian. We also recognize that there are important doctrines that shape our faith and ought to be thoughtfully wrestled with yet there is room for disagreement on these. Lastly, some ideas are simply a matter of preference and Christians all over the world and all throughout time may have differing opinions.
-
Both the Old Testament and the New Testament testify that there is one true God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:5; James 2:19; Mark 12:29; Romans 3:30), personal (Jeremiah 29:13, Acts 17:27), spirit (John 4:24), self-existent (John 5:26), eternal (Psalm 90:2), infinite (1 Kings 8:27; Romans 11:33), perfect in all things (Matthew 5:48; Psalm 18:30; Deut: 32:4), and He is love (1 John 4:8).
-
We believe that this God exists as one Being in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:167-17; Matthew 28:18-20). Each Person of the Trinity is coequal in everyway (Colossians 2:9; John 10:30-33; John 17:5). The main distinctions, being their relationship to one another and to their work. These three persons, being omnipresent, uncircumscribed, spirit, and simple (not composed of parts) mutually indwell one another so there is One God in Three Persons and not three gods and not three parts of god and not three modes of god.
-
We believe in the First Person of the Trinity, God the Father Almighty (1 Corinthians 8:6, Genesis 17:1), Creator of Heaven and Earth (Genesis 1:1) and of all things visible and invisible (Colossians 1:16) who is revealed in scripture as Father (first to the Son and then to us) (John 10:29).
-
We believe in The Second Person of The Trinity, God the Son (John 3:16), who being fully God (John 10:33, John 20:28), was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35), was born of the virgin Mary (Matthew 1:18), and took on the nature of man (1 Timothy 2:5), Now fully God and fully man (Colossians 2:9) - our Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9), Jesus Christ. He Suffered under Pontius Pilate (John 18); Was crucified (Luke 23:33), dead (John 19:30) and buried (Matthew 27:57-60); He descended into Hades (1 Peter 3:18-20); On the third day He rose from the dead again (1 Corinthians 15:4); He ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9-12); And is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty (Colossians 3:1); He shall come to judge the living and the dead (Acts 10:42).
-
We believe in the Third Person of The Trinity, God the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4), the Lord (Hebrews 9:14) and Giver of life (Job 33:4), Who proceeds from the Father and the Son (John 14:26, John 15:26): Who together with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified: Who spoke by the prophets (Numbers 11:29). Who convicts the world of sin (John 16:7-15), enables the sinner to repent and believe (Ephesians 3:14-19), and Who sanctifies and edifies the Church (Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Corinthians 12:7).
-
We believe that the chief end of man is to be incorporated into the Body of Christ (Revelation 19:7), to glorify God (1 Corinthians 10:31, Romans 9:21-24), and to enjoy Him forever (Philippians 1:19-23, Psalm 37:4, Psalm 32:11, Philippians 4:4). Mankind is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and due to the sin of Adam and Eve, live in a fallen world and are they themselves fallen (Romans 5:12). All are in need of a Savior for the forgiveness of sin and eternal glory (Romans 3:23-24).
-
We believe that Salvation is by grace alone, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9), Who through His life (Romans 5:18-19), death (Romans 5:8, Hebrews 10:12) and bodily resurrection (Hebrews 2:14, 1 Peter 1:3), redeems us from sin (Ephesians 1:7) and reconciles us unto God (2 Corinthians 5:18). This faith leads to genuine repentance (Romans 2:4) and is evidenced in real-life change (James 2:26).
-
We believe that the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments form the entirety of Holy Scripture. They are the inspired (Hebrews 4:12) and authoritative Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). They represent God’s revelation and relation to human history (Luke 24:27).
-
We believe the Church is the Body (1 Corinthians 12:27) and Bride of Christ (Revelation 19:7), the visible and invisible (Hebrews 12:1) community of genuine followers of Jesus Christ manifested as local congregations (Revelation 2-3). It is the primary means of grace, and the end (goal) of creation (Revelation 21:2). She is identified by the preaching of the pure word of God, the due administration of the sacraments, and the community rightly ordered (Acts 2:42). Its mission is singular: to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey all of Christ’s commands (Matthew 28:18-21).
-
We partake of the bread and cup usually once a month (on the first Sunday of the month). And believe communion to be a means of grace in which we renew our covenant and remember Christ’s sacrifice and great love for us.
-
Baptism as exemplified and commanded by Christ and as practiced by the apostles is a public symbol of how we receive Christ as Lord. It is a testimony of our death, burial and resurrection with Christ to begin a new life of faith in God. All major baptismal traditions are honored. (Romans 6:4; Acts 9:36-38)
-
We believe there is but one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. We believe all who genuinely profess Christ (from any denomination) are part of that one body for which Christ died. (1 Corinthians 12:12)
-
All shall be bodily raised from the dead, those who have died in Christ to eternal life, and those who have rejected Him to conscious punishment in the everlasting Lake of Fire. (John 5:28-29, Daniel 12:2, Revelation 20:11-15)
